“Culture and education have no bounds or limits; now children are in a phase in which they must decide for themselves how far they can proceed in the culture that belongs to the whole of humanity.”—Maria Montessori
Learning about various cultures is a critical component of today’s education. As our global society shrinks more and more every day, and cultures overlap, we must learn about what we once only read about. Different cultures are now mingling in person, virtually and in every way.
Holidays, such as the ones we celebrated in recent months, help children to understand different cultures. These celebrations introduce children to many religious beliefs, different foods, various decorations and distinct cultural interactions. The happiness of holidays and/or their meaningful religious contemplations will educate our youth about the ways societies live, their beliefs and their connections within their own cultures and with other cultures.
Holidays are a way to connect students within the classroom and to teach lessons of great importance. Now more than ever, children must know about and understand other peoples of the world through their cultures. Holidays can successfully teach!
